Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

DO YOU TAKE WALK INS?

  • Our studio is by appointment only. We prefer appointments so we can be given time in advance to think and create the best option for your tattoo! This also helps us keep low foot traffic and a safer environment in the shop. Follow us on IG (@BlackGardenTattooVT) for possible last minute openings.

DEPOSITS - CANCELLATION POLICY

  • Depending on the amount of sessions needed for your tattoo, a deposit of $200 (for Morgan) or $150 (for Max) will be required to hold time in the calendar. Your deposit is rolled until the last session and comes back out that day, however is non-refundable should you cancel or no-show. 72 hours notice is required to reschedule and after 2 reschedules your deposit will be forfeited.

  • An active appointment MUST be held in the calendar to hold an active deposit. Once an appointment is cancelled without a reschedule date, a new deposit will be required.

WILL I NEED A CONSULTATION BEFORE SETTING UP AN APPT?

  • Most of our consultations are done via email. If you have a coverup tattoo that the artist needs to view in person, they’ll likely recommend an in person consultation before booking your appointment.

DO YOU DO REWORKS/COVERUPS?

  • This depends on the artist! Feel free to send your desired artist a photo of your existing tattoo and see if any ideas for it are possible. We’d always recommend a few sessions of laser simply to lighten darker tattoos. Lifting up a few shades of darkness always opens up your options substantially. Please keep in mind that coverups are more time consuming and strategic than creating a fresh tattoo and can be a multisession process. Light shades, negative space and grey typically do not work for coverups.

DO YOU CHARGE BY THE HOUR OR PIECE?

  • Each artist charges individually.

@morganchenoa charges at a rate of 200/hr with a 250/hr rate for coverups. Morgan typically books in blocks of 2 to 3 hours, or a 3 to 5 hour session.

    @maxandrewtattoo charges 175/hr with a $175 minimum.

  • We charge only for needle to skin tattoo time and keep a timer, we do not charge flat rates so this is the most fair for clients and artists.

WILL I SEE THE ART BEFORE OUR APPOINTMENT?

  • We do not send artwork out before tattoo day. The drawing is started a few days before the appointment and any changes to the design will be made on the day of. We draw electronically and will have your design ready to view on your appointment date. If your subject matter has completely changed, a new deposit will be required and a new appointment scheduled.

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR MY APPOINTMENT?

  • Do not drink alcohol or take medication (tylenol, advil etc) prior to your appointment. This thins your blood and can make the process more difficult, along with a more difficult heal.

  • Make sure you eat before your appointment, and come well rested. We’ll have plenty of snacks and water available during your appointment as well.

WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?

  • We accept venmo for the deposit and VENMO/ CASH or CREDIT (with a 4% fee) the day of your appointment.

DO YOU DO WATERCOLOR TATTOOS?

  • Unfortunately we don’t have any artists specializing in watercolor. If you have a watercolor project we’d be happy to refer you to who we think is best!

DO YOU TATTOO MINORS?

  • Unfortunately, no. We don’t tattoo anyone under the age of 18, even with parental consent.

IF I BRING IN MY OWN ART, WILL YOU TATTOO IT?

  • All of our designs are custom made by our artists, we do not tattoo other’s artwork. To avoid any accidental theft of art, and to keep our portfolios top quality and consistent.

WHICH LOCATION WILL MY APPOINTMENT BE AT?

  • We do not move into our new building until January 2025. Any current appointments are held at the original Waterbury location until then. The front page of the website contains our address, which will be updated once we’re in the new space.
